Wir erleben dramatische Zeiten. Die sich vor den Toren Europas abspielenden Kriegsszenen sind erschütternd. Es besteht selbst die Gefahr eines Atomkriegs. Dennoch sollten wir versuchen, nicht in Panik zu verfallen, die oft ein schlechter Ratgeber ist.
Ganz nüchtern betrachtet spielen die Größe und Zusammensetzung Ihres Portfolios keine Rolle mehr, wenn eine Atomrakete auf Sie zufliegt. Trotz der nachvollziehbaren persönlichen Betroffenheit empfiehlt es sich aber, dieses existenzielle Risiko auszuklammern, ohne jedoch die von vielen bereits ausführlich kommentierten Extremrisiken aus dem Blick zu verlieren.
1. In den Portfolios vorgenommene Anpassungen im Überblick
Schon ab dem 14. Februar – noch vor Kriegsausbruch – sind wir zu einer defensiveren Positionierung übergegangen und haben Aktien untergewichtet. Wichtig zu betonen ist uns, dass unsere Fonds nicht direkt in russischen oder ukrainischen Wertpapieren (Aktien, Anleihen) investiert sind oder waren.
In den Aktienportfolios wurde das Risiko durch Auf-stockung der Kasseposition reduziert, ohne dass jedoch die Fondsmanager ihre Anlagephilosophie ändern mussten. Verkauft wurden zudem die illiquidesten Aktien, insbesondere bei Small- und Micro-Caps. Damit vermeiden wir im Falle einer Verschlechterung der Lage in eine Liquiditätsfalle zu geraten.
In den Anleiheportfolios haben wir hauptsächlich die Duration als Stellschraube genutzt. So behielten wir unsere Positionierung auf kurze Laufzeiten bei, ergänzten die Portfolios aber um kurz laufende Investment-Grade-Titel, um die Auswirkungen eines möglichen Zinsrückgangs aufgrund steigender Risikoaversion zu begrenzen.
Die Multi-Asset-Portfolios haben wir mit zwei Maß-nahmen angepasst. Zum einen wurde das Risiko redu-ziert. Hierzu wurde die Aktienquote gesenkt bzw. wurden Unternehmensanleihen mit hohem Beta verkauft (hybride Unternehmensanleihen, Nachranganleihen, Cocos usw.). Zweitens suchten wir nach Möglich-keiten der Diversifizierung: Gold (sofern dies nach den jeweiligen Anlagerichtlinien zulässig ist), als sicherer Hafen geltende Währungen (JPY, CHF, USD) oder auch Absicherungsoptionen. Insgesamt wurde das Engage-ment in Europa im Vergleich zum Rest der Welt zurückgefahren.
Zwar erschienen einigen Marktteilnehmern die Bewertungen attraktiv genug, um auf eine Erholung zu setzen. Wir zogen es jedoch vor, vorsichtig zu sein und haben unser Engagement rasch reduziert. Auf diese Weise haben wir die jüngste Marktphase ohne größere Kollateralschäden überstanden.
Wie sieht es aktuell bei unseren Strategien aus? Einige haben sich unterdurchschnittlich entwickelt (fundamentale Aktien, quantitative Aktien), womit wir nicht zufrieden sein können. Jedoch hat sich die Performance dank der vorsichtigen Positionierung zuletzt verbessert. Bei Anleihen ist eine starke Erholung der Ren-diten zu beobachten, und unsere High-Yield-Fonds rangieren sowohl auf 1-Jahres-Sicht als auch im laufenden Jahr wieder im ersten Quartil. Auch die Themenfonds behaupten sich gut – ein Beleg für die Robustheit des auf künstlicher Intelligenz basierenden Anlageprozesses.
2. Regionen und Sektoren, die sich in diesem Umfeld besser behaupten können
Regionen: Seit Ausbruch des Konflikts hat sich die Abhängigkeit der relativen Wertentwicklung europä-ischer Vermögenswerte von den Öl- und Erdgas-preisen erhöht und nährte damit die Wahrscheinlichkeit einer Stagflation in Europa. Steigende Energiepreise gingen und gehen auch weiterhin einher mit einer Underperformance europäischer Aktien, einem fallenden EUR/USD-Kurs und im Vergleich zu den USA niedrigeren deutschen Realrenditen. Ein signifikanter Rückgang der Energiepreise ist in keinem der Szenarien zu erwarten. Mehr denn je ist es entscheidend, die Aktienengagements in den Portfolios über die Eurozone hinaus zu diversifizieren. Dies bedeutet jedoch nicht, dass wir die Gewichtung in den USA stark erhöhen, da die Bewertungen in diesem Umfeld hoch bleiben. Mit dem 19-fachen der auf 12-Monats-Sicht erwarteten Gewinne sind wir weit von günstigen Einstiegskursen entfernt.
In den Schwellenländern haben wir unsere Gewichtung in China angepasst. Das Wachstumsziel von rund 5,5 % ist ein klares Signal für die Entschlossenheit der Regierung, in diesem Jahr wirtschaftliche Stabilität herzustellen. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, setzen die Politiker auf finanzpolitische Impulse in einem Umfang von rund 3% des BIP. Darüber hinaus wurde das jährliche Ziel zur Senkung der Energieintensität in diesem Jahr vollständig aufgegeben und der Energie-sicherheit Vorrang eingeräumt. Zudem sind erste Anzeichen für ein Abrücken von der Zero-Covid-Politik zu beobachten. Vor diesem Hintergrund geben wir Aktien chinesischer Festlandsunternehmen (A-Shares) den Vorzug, da sie vor einer möglichen regulatorischen Verschärfung besser geschützt sind und eher von den Infrastruktur-Konjunkturprogrammen profitieren können. Darüber hinaus passen wir die Gewichtung im chinesischen Technologie-sektor an, da sich dieser im Jahresvergleich um 45% schlechter entwickelt hat als sein amerikanisches Pendant.
Sektoren: Nach einem starken Jahresauftakt bekamen die Banken die Ukraine-Krise mit voller Wucht zu spüren. So wurde die zuvor im laufenden Jahr erzielte Outperformance von 20% wieder zunichte gemacht. Was muss, was kann man nun tun?
Werfen wir einen Blick auf die Zeit nach der Energie-krise von 1973. Zwischen dem 19. Oktober 1973 und Dezember 1974 büßten Banken 44% an Wert ein und erreichten erst 15 Monate später wieder ihr Vorkrisen-niveau. Steigende Kapitalkosten könnten den Spielraum für Dividendenausschüttungen (Dividendenrendite von derzeit voraussichtlich 7,5%) erheblich einengen und das Potenzial der Banken begrenzen. Doch das in Aussicht gestellte EU-Konjunkturpaket mit Investitionen in Verteidigung und Energie, das über die Emission gemeinsamer europäischer Anleihen finanziert wird, dürfte den Abschwung in Europa dämpfen. Vor diesem Hintergrund dürfte der jüngste Rückgang der Bewertungen auf 49% des Buchwerts bald eine langfristige strategische Neupositionierung erlauben, allerdings mit nur geringer Gewichtung und der Volatilität des Sektors entsprechend, d.h. ein Anteil am Portfolio von weniger als 5%.
Wir favorisieren auch einen Wiedereinstieg in den Gesundheitssektor, bei dem die künftigen Cashflows gut kalkulierbar sind und der eine geringe Verschuldung sowie angemessene Bewertungen bietet.
3. Zentrale Säulen unserer Asset Allocation
Noch gibt es keine positiven Signale, die für eine Änderung unserer Positionierung sprechen. Oberste Priorität hat aktuell der Vermögenserhalt. Es ist noch zu früh, um Chancen zu nutzen. Daher bleiben wir vorerst defensiv positioniert. Auf der Aktienseite bleiben wir untergewichtet, insbesondere bei Small Caps. Auch bei Hochzinsanleihen ist es noch zu früh, um wieder zu investieren, selbst wenn sich die Spreads stark ausgeweitet haben.
Keiner kann sagen, wie sich diese Situation weiterentwickelt. Sie können sich aber auf den vollen Einsatz aller Teams für die Verwaltung Ihrer Anlagen verlassen. Es ist unsere Pflicht, ruhig und flexibel zu bleiben und unsere Strategien an das sich ändernde Umfeld anzupassen. Zwar spricht viel dafür, dass der Ukraine das Schlimmste noch bevorsteht. Allerdings hoffe ich aus tiefstem Herzen, dass es nicht so weit kommt.
Klar ist, dass wir aktuell auf Sicht fahren. Gleichzeitig versuchen wir aber auch, die langfristigeren Folgen eines solchen Konflikts abzuschätzen. Eine größere Energieunabhängigkeit, weniger Globalisierung, ein neues Inflationsumfeld ... all dies würde die Karten in Bezug auf Gewinner- und Verliererregionen, -Sektoren und -Unternehmen neu mischen. Nach dem Abschluss einer genauen Analyse dieser Veränderungen kommen wir gerne mit den Ergebnissen wieder auf Sie zu.
